In central Virginia, when we remember August 2017 in years to come, even such a magnificent event as a solar eclipse may not stick with us as long as the visitation of hate and violence our community has so recently experienced.
We come together annually in August for the printer’s holiday of Wayzgoose, to mark the time of year when the light in the print shop begins to wane when our need for artificial light in the early evening slowly replaces the sun we’ve enjoyed all summer. We feel more than usual that we need some time to be together with food, some common tasks, and the simple gift of each other’s presence to reflect on it all.
So we invite all members and those who may be interested in membership to join us if you are in the area for some printing and work around the shop beginning Saturday, August 26 at 1 PM, with a cookout to start around 4:30 PM. We hope to see you there.
The wayzgoose was at one time an entertainment given by a master printer to his workmen each year on or about St Bartholomew’s Day. It marked the traditional end of summer and the start of the season of working by candlelight.
