Artist’s Statement: “Invasive plants threaten native ecosystems, agriculture, wildlife, and by extension humans. These species were often introduced by ignorance, mismanagement, or accident. My book untangled focuses on the wild grapevine, a native plant that when kept unchecked entwines and engulfs trees and shrubs in our landscape. By extracting pigments, shapes, and materials from a specific plant, my intent is to highlight not only the problem with undesired plant invasions, but environmental threats and climate change as a whole. Causes and public reactions to environmental issues relate—desire, power, and monetary gains often prevail over willingness to find climate solutions that will benefit us all.”
