UVa Student Welcome Reception, Tuesday, Sept 8 – 6:30PM. We’re meeting and greeting UVa students interested in our book arts apprenticeships, classes, wares, and camaraderie. Join us for light refreshments!
Printing with the Poet, Sept 12 & 19, Noon-5PM. An introduction to letterpress two-day workshop, printing Michael Chitwood’s “The Clatter of Aluminum Ladders.” A unique opportunity to go word-for-word and line-by-line with a celebrated Tupelo Press poet. Chitwood will join us on the second meeting day (he’s in town for a reading on Friday, Sept 18 at the Bridge). $60 members, $70 nonmembers
Monotype Printing, Fri Sept 18 6-8PM; Sat 19 & Sun 20 10AM-4PM. First class at VABC in this printing style, with Art on Ivy professional artist Liz Peak. Learn how to prepare paper for printing, develop an image in water-based etching inks, print and dry prints. $125 members, $150 nonmembers
Are you utterly new to bookbinding, or would you like to refresh your skills from square one? Jane Freeman introduces basic bookbinding tools, materials (such as paper, folding, cutting, punching and basic stitching) as well as standard bookbinding processes. $75 members, $85 nonmembers
VABC’s multi-week signature typesetting and press usage class. The goal is to achieve a demonstrable level of skill and confidence on a Vandercook press, a first step toward being “licensed” on the press. $500 members, $550 nonmembers
