August 2015: Wayzgoose and Everything After

IMG_0259We’ve been enjoying the changes taking place at VABC and in the Art on Ivy space. Thanks for your hard work! And thanks to all of you members who’ve renewed your dues–and a last reminder to those who’ve yet to renew. It’s never been easier…see THIS LINK for membership options, and this one to pay online.

It’s about time we celebrate as a community. Wayzgoose is almost here….

Reconnect at Wayzgoose!

VABC Wayzgoose, Saturday August 29! We’re offering all day card printing and printing demos to celebrate the book arts holiday, 10AM-4PM. Participation is free. Members with printing experience are invited to join in printing greeting cards for sale through Art on Ivy–you can keep a percentage of the cards you print! Our members come out of the woodwork for Wayzgoose…a last flush of lazy summer before a busy autumn. Put it on your calendar…we grill out with burgers and the like at 4:30PM.

A Time to Typeset

Introduction to Letterpress begins the last week of September. This course gets you setting type and up to speed on a Vandercook press. Projects include printing a multi-color poster and type you set by hand.

If you’re not quite sure about the full immersion, we’re putting together a “Printing with the Poet” experience with Tupelo Press poet Michael Chitwoodspanning two Saturdays in September. Contact Kevin McFadden if you’re interested in this introduction to letterpress–you’ll leave with a literary broadside by a visiting poet!

Also, now that Elizabeth Peak has joined our creative community, we’ve got an opportunity to add a new class in monotype printing (and etching coming soon).

If you’ve been waiting to dive into any of these printing opportunities, explore the site and be in touch!
