VABC BOOKMAKERS: Flag Book Workshop
12 NOON*–4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2012

Cost: $20 for VABC members; $25 for nonmembers.

The flag book is a simple structure that’s unusually malleable. It can be oriented horizontally, vertically, or circularly, and, if desired, allows for almost unlimited interplay between text and image. We’ll discuss the basic form and look at pictures of others’ interpretations of the form, then make a “rainbow book” (based on a design by Green Heron Book Arts). Using our rainbow books as a springboard, we’ll create a book of any dimension or orientation we choose, using any combination of images and texts.

Materials to bring, in addition to basic tools:

For the rainbow book we’ll all make together
One sheet of Canson Mi-Teintes or something similar for covers; I’ll provide the flags

For the book you create on your own
Another sheet of Canson Mi-Teintes or something similar for covers
Any type of paper or cardstock for flags
Any pictures, graphics, text, etc. you’d like to incorporate
