Letterpress Certification Course
When: Sept 26 and five Sundays in Fall (1-5PM)
Fee: $500 for full Certification Course
NOTE FOR UVA EMPLOYEES: You are eligible to use Education Benefit funds for this class tuition

Instructors: Kristin Adolfson, Kevin McFadden, Garrett Queen
During this 6-day course, which meets 1-5PM on Sundays, a student will learn and be certified (pending completion of printing test) for all skills necessary to:
-compose, typeset, and print a text project with lead type on a Vandercook printing press
-utilize basic letterpress terminology
-navigate a job case’s arrangement and distribute type
-understand the strategies and concepts behind two-color printing
-use wood type, polymer, and block print on a Vandercook press
-troubleshoot common printing problems
-clean the parts of a Vandercook press
-clean and store accessories including furniture, tools, and type
Students will print a final project to demonstrate their mastery of skills. For enrollment in the course or questions, contact Kevin McFadden (kmcfadden@virginia.edu). Registrations received by Sept 21 please.
